The Bible study class meets every Tuesday evening at 7 pm in the fellowship hall, and ends at 8 pm. The class is held in a manner to "engage" everyone into "digging" deeper into the Word for a greater understanding and fulfillment of the will of Jesus Christ in their lives. There are many areas of the spiritual life in Christ Jesus that are considered and studied. In addition to the emphasis of a greater burden and outreach for the lost, we consider many of the facets of life that are facing the class during this phase of their lives. The ages in the class range from the mid thirtys to up to 65. Many pressures and challenges of life are especially unique to this age group and these challenges impact our spiritual walk: - Raising children who are becoming teenagers and then going to college
- Elderly parents that need care or who will soon pass away
- Changing careers or jobs in an ever changing world
- Working through health problems that often come with age
- Griefs and setbacks and more...
The common theme is the need of a closer walk with Jesus Christ and the need for one another. We have been exhorted in the Word: "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Hebrews 10:22-25
The class welcomes everyone to come and take part in the study. We also are regularly publishing the studies, discussions, and personal devotions and testimonies of the class via the class blog. So if your are too far away to attend, we invite you to subscribe to our class blog, either by email or with your preferred RSS reader - and you can send us your comments or questions to the class, or place a comment on one of the blog posts. |

Edith Tolbert: I had been raised religious all my life, going to church every week. I thought I was a christian because I measured myself by every one else in the religious organization. When I was 23 years old we move to Sacramento and God led me to the Church of God in Carmichael. I heard old time gospel preaching and saw people really living what the Bible said. God convicted my soul and showed me I needed to repent of all sin and be saved. I counted the cost and decided I wanted the truth and I wanted to go to heaven. I repented of all bitterness, bad attitudes, rensentments and sin. God saved me and put peace and joy in my heart. I have never regretted the day I gave up sin and religion and found real salvation. It is a joy to see young and old alike saved and growing in the Lord. It is a blessing working for God in Bible studies and the ongoing work of the kingdom of God.
Edith Tolbert taught the Young People's Class faithfully for many years, but more recently has willingly taken on teaching the Mature Adult class, and we are grateful for the faithful labor she is also performing here. Contact Edith Tolbert |

Like many others, Richard Lehman was raised around religion and some Bible teachings. But without the truth of the Gospel being taught and lived around him, he "drifted" into the typical "rut" of going to a church, but still being bound as a sinner. And So his way of life was to go to a church regularly, but live like any old sinner the rest of the time. Finally when he was 21 years of age he met someone who testified to him how the Lord Jesus could save him completely from sin and give him the power to live holy and right every day. He started attending the Church of God in Carmichael, CA where he heard the plain Word of God preached, taught, and lived without any mixture of men's ideas and doctrines. It was not long after that Richard came to the place where he fully repented of his sins, and of being just religious. The Lord Jesus Christ mightily saved him completely from all sin and has kept him that way ever since! In the later 1980s the Lord began to use Richard in Bible studies, teaching, and leading a local evangelistic work. Shortly after he started teaching the Mature Adult Class around 1990. Recently Richard has been increasingly involved with a number of evangelism efforts on the Web and in helping out in other places. Additionally, from time to time he assists the Pastor with preaching and other efforts whenever there is a need. Richard loves seeing how the Lord can transform a life and settle individuals and families in the truth of the Gospel following Jesus Christ. He has also come to realize more and more as time goes on the need to not just teach the great riches in Christ Jesus, but he must also work with and through the class and others to help inspire them to a greater burden and outreach for the lost. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! James 3:5
Some of you may remember our former Pastor, Brother Sam Mc Conohea, showing his teeth and calling them our "personal pearly gate." He would say that we needed to guard our gate so that we kept our tongue in its place- behind the gate. All down through time people have made shipwreck because of their mouth. We have to keep a watch on our own mouth; somebody else can’t keep a watch for us.
In 1938, there was a 60-minute program on the radio called the War of the Worlds by Orson Wells. The show was aired on the Columbia Broadcasting Company. For the first forty minutes of the program, it was newscasters giving information about how we had been invaded by aliens from Mars. During that forty minute time period, many people turned on their radio, unaware of the program, so what they heard was one newscaster after another. They were hearing the newscasters saying that the United States had been invaded by aliens from Mars. The information put a lot of people in panic. When they found out that it wasn’t true, they were angry. Words are powerful and can do a lot of things.
The Great Plague was in the world in the Fourteenth Century. There was a story that went around that said that the Jews had caused it by poisoning the well systems in the towns. What happened to the Jews? There was a massacre of the Jews. People were so angry because of the plague that was going on. They were thinking that the Jews had caused it. The Jews didn’t have anything to do with it. It was a gossip story that had been started and so they killed thousands of Jews because they thought that they had polluted the water system.
Some of you may remember Bernard Goetz in the 1980’s. He shot four young people in the New York Subway system. In the first trial, he was prosecuted and let off from murder. He was only given a sentence for unlawfully carrying a handgun. After the acquittal, he started talking. The more that he talked, the more people got concerned, so they opened up the case. They had a Grand Jury trial that found him guilty of second-degree murder. He was jailed. It was all because he opened his mouth. If he had just kept it closed after the first trial, he would have been fine. A lot of people think they can talk about this and that and there won’t be any harm. We need to guard what we say.
Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth: keep the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3
