Tuesday Night, Bible Study 12/29/2009,  Ross Tolbert

An old year has completed its course and we have just begun a new year.  Many people will be setting goals for the new year and as Christians we too should consider spiritual goals.  So what is your spiritual game plan for the New Year?

Our first goal should be to continue to live a sin free life.  Consider Isaiah 1:18: Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.  99.9% sin free doesn't cut it or Isaiah 1:18 would have to be re-written to say,"though your sins are as scarlet they will be light pink"

The population of the world today is made up of a lot of what one might call “almost” people, or fair-weather Christians.  When life is going good and there are no temptations they are doing good, but when life is not so good and the temptations come, well, they  “almost” make it.  They do not stand up for God when they should.  God wants us to be "altogether" for Christ not almost Christian.  If you are not living a sin free life, as a true Christian should, God wants you to give all your heart to him so he can cleanse you of all your sin.

Things we can focus on to help us continue successful for God this year:

Psalms 119:1-16
Vs 10- Seek the lord on a regular basis-daily
Vs11 Treasure his truth in your heart
Vs 13 Openly tell others of him.  Don't be ashamed of spreading the "Good News" of the gospel
Vs 14, 16 Rejoice in Gods workings
Vs 15-16 Give God your full respect.

Biblical examples of some who were successful for God:

Moses
Hebrews 11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Another person who stood alone in a foreign land against the odds.

Esther
Esther 4:14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Consider the following thoughts:

How many did it take to help the victim who got mugged on the Jericho Road? One
How many were chosen by God to confront Pharaoh? One
How many sheep got lost and became the object of concern to the shepherd? One
How many were needed to confront the adulterous David? One
How many prophets were called to stand before wicked King Ahab and predict a drought? One
How many did the Lord use to get the attention of the land of Palestine and prepare the way for Jesus? One

Continue to live successful for Christ, and you too can make a difference this year in your neighborhood, with your friends, and with your family.
